Two of North Carolina’s finest songwriters - Wyatt Easterling and Joe Newberry - will take the stage for an evening of songs written and songs discovered on June 2 at Isis Music Hall.

Known around the world for his clawhammer banjo playing, Joe Newberry is also a powerful guitarist, singer and songwriter. The Gibson Brothers’ version of his song “Singing As We Rise,” featuring guest vocalist Ricky Skaggs, won the 2012 IBMA “Gospel Recorded Performance” Award. With Eric Gibson, he shared the 2013 IBMA “Song of the Year” Award for “They Called It Music.” A longtime guest on A Prairie Home Companion, he was a featured singer on the Transatlantic Sessions 2016 tour of the U.K. with fiddler Aly Bain and Dobro master Jerry Douglas, and at the Transatlantic Session's debut at Merlefest in 2017. He plays in a duo with mandolin icon Mike Compton, and also performs with the dynamic fiddler and dancer April Verch.

After many years of working all angles of the music business in such diverse roles as a multi-platinum producer and songwriter, to Chief of A&R; for Atlantic Records in Nashville, Tenn., to signing on as a staff writer in Nashville, Wyatt Easterling has had the opportunity to work with some of the finest songwriters and artists from around the world. Artists he has worked with include Miles Copland and Sting of the Police, Keith Urban, and John Michael Montgomery, to name just a few. His experiences in so many parts of the music industry have influenced his craft as a songwriter and performer. His intricate guitar work and smooth voice easily draws in the listener into his world of Contemporary Folk and Americana.
