Once a thoughtful handmade gift, the mixtape has fallen on hard times in the digital era. But the Asheville Symphony hasn’t given up on the mixtape, preserving the form in the lounge of West Asheville’s Isis Music Hall. Just for Amadeus, the Opal String Quartet has created a live mixtape with some of their favorite works both in and out of the quartet genre, including the music of Maurice Ravel, Philip Glass and The Flaming Lips.
To purchase tickets, call 828.254.7046 or visit the Asheville Symphony office at 27 College Place, Suite 100, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, or order online using the buy ticket link

The Opal String Quartet, formed in 2006, is a professional chamber ensemble based in Asheville, North Carolina. Known for its fiery intensity and polished precision, the OSQ is dedicated to bringing the art of chamber music to diverse audiences by performing in a wide variety of venues, from schools, bars, and art galleries to street corners and concert halls. While taking a fresh approach to traditional masterworks, the quartet specializes in the performance of contemporary repertoire, and enjoys collaborating with living composers and premiering new works.
Opal String Quartet has performed extensively around Western North Carolina and the surrounding region, having been featured on several chamber music series. OSQ has also been featured on WCQS, and performed at the University of North Carolina-Asheville, Appalachian State University, Montreat College, and Asheville Art Museum among other venues. The OSQ serves as Artists-in-Residence for the educational outreach programs of the Asheville Chamber Music Series, the Asheville Symphony Guild, and the Brevard Philharmonic.
