RealWomenRealSongs is the brainchild of Cary Cooper. She hand selected 21 fantastic songwriters from across the country to create songs weekly to prompts for an entire year. This is the 2nd in the series presented virtually at Isis Music Hall.

Each week the women are given a new prompt to write their songs from. And on a specific day of the week, they each post their newly written, un-tweaked songs on social media to share the creative process with the public. Among the participants are Sara Hickman, Tracy Grammer, Alice Peacock, Ellis Delaney, Terri Hendrix, Ty Greenstein (from Mouths of Babes) Kate Klim, Shanna in a Dress, Liv Greene and others, including Cary herself. This is the third season of RWRS.

In 2014, Cary left her native state of Texas for the mountains of Western North Carolina where she's been performing and teaching ever since. In late April she will be moving to Nashville, so this will be her last performance as an Asheville local. Cary’s songs are simple, and quirky in nature, drawing you in with pop melodies and then hitting you over the head with lyrics that are deceptively deep. Guitars in the Classroom calls Cary “the Anne LaMott of songwriting...except she can get to the heart of things in 3 minutes instead of 200 pages.”

In addition to being a captivating performer, she is also a dynamic teacher.
In early 2011, Cary was spotted by the producers of Troubadour, TX, a new TV docu/drama series that debuted nationwide in September, 2011 on the CW network. Along with several other Texas songwriters, Cary was cast on the first season of the show.

"I love great musical surprises, and Troubadour,TX has allowed me to discover some really significant singer-songwriter surprises. And one of those is Cary Cooper. From the moment I met her, she was singing an original composition that was one of the most delightful surprises in my own personal journey of making music...The song was "Suzanne", and from that song on, Cary has continued to impress me not only with her original and unique lyrics, but with her enchanting, one-of-a-kind musical compositions that absolutely catch you by surprise, and then never leave you alone. A very special singer-songwriter with her best songs yet to come."

Liv Greene

Liv Greene is an up and coming Americana singer-songwriter whose music has been described by American Songwriter as "at once poignant and crushing." Raised in a music filled household in Washington DC, Greene's love of songs and storytelling started young and took off from the moment she taught herself her first guitar chords at age 12. Since she began writing 10 years ago, Greene has won multiple awards for her writing and performance including winning the 2019 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Competition and being named first alternate in the 2019 Telluride Troubadour Contest. In 2020 she independently released a stunning debut record, produced by Isa Burke of the Smithsonian Folkways band Lula Wiles. These days, Greene is hard at work on the next record- writing and online teaching through the pandemic, and preparing to move from Boston, MA to Nashville, TN.

Sarah Hickman

Official Texas State Musician Sara Hickman has been recording, performing and touring since 1988. Through broad tv and radio exposure, over 20 albums, two appearances on the Tonight Show and multiple awards for
her songwriting and philanthropy, Sara is internationally known for her Grammy nominated and award winning pop/folk music. Through her music, Sara has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for a multitude of nonprofits including Habitat for Humanity, the SPCA, the Ugandan Fistula Fund, House the Homeless, Sanford Community Center, Tanner Romanian Mission and many others.

Since 2019, Sara has donated over $18,000 in proceeds from the sales of her hand-drawn Texas Musicians Coloring Book. Lastly, she's the booking agent for a yearly family music festival called MossFest and is a proud mom to two amazing kids.

Kate Klim

Kate Klim has been recognized by some of the country's major songwriting contests and festivals, including the Kerrville New Folk Competition, Telluride Troubadour Contest and Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist Showcase.
